Issue 27 of Exotica Moderne features cover art by publisher Ken Holewczynski, with a nod to one of our favorite Tiki events – Tiki Caliente, held at the historic Caliente Tropics motel.

Inside, we feature the work of designer Darick Maasen, tracing his artistic path, including his work for Chicago’s Three Dots and a Dash and Phoenix’s Undertow.

Anna Maria Sophia Cancelli delves into the poetry of Don Blanding, with an in-depth look at his writing and illustrations. Ray Wyland takes a fast and hard road trip through the home Tiki bars of Detroit and Justin Cristaldi stops in at one of his favorite and thoroughly-authentic Asian dining establishments, Lee’s Hawaiian Islander.

Armand Castellanos was lucky enough to attend the 50th anniversary celebration of Trader Vic’s in Tokyo and gives his thoughts on the amazing experience. 

Mark Riddles gives his insights into the formation of the musical project - the Midday Mai Tais, an exotic supergroup featuring Kane Manakoora, Mr. Moai & the Tikiheads, The Tiki Delights and Mark, himself.
