Reverb International #2, 2024 (Surf Rock, Rockabilly)
Cool retro music culture mag from the publishers of Exotica Moderne!
The second issue of Reverb International features Draculina’s “Exotica” take on surf and other genres as we interview band leader and bassist Polina Aigre along with percussionist Larry Mullins of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds fame. She also graces this issue’s cover but don’t fear - she doesn’t bite!
We also feature the man who is seemingly everywhere at once in the surf scene, Lorenzo “Surfer Joe” Valdambrini as he discusses his history and take on the surf sound and the world’s largest surf gathering, the Surfer Joe Summer Festival. And if Lorenzo isn’t busy enough, we also take a dive into Surfy Industries - his line of boutique reverb and effect pedals.
East coast-based The Nebulas take us through their incarnation and their unique combo of rock, metal, garage and surf - and skull masks!
Patrick Cleary provides a great story on garage-revivalists The Unclaimed, reflecting on the passing of band leader Shelley Ganz. Continuing along the garage route, we also feature garage/doo-wop/surf/pop outfit, The McCharmlys.
Ivan Pongracic is back again with a studious examination of the seminal album by The Atlantics, “Now It’s Stompn’ Time!” in what is now the album’s 60th anniversary.
Associate Editor Art Bourasseau of MuSick Recordings interviews Rick Mills of the Detroit surf act, The Volcanos and everyone’s favorite bassist Jonpaul Balak explores the origins of aggressive surf.
